Description
A large vigorous shrub from Europe and Asia, growing 5m (16 ft) high in 10 years. It produces distinctive bladder-like papery seed pods in late summer, that have edible seeds 1 cm across tasting rather like pistachio nuts.
Likes a moist soil and thrives in full shade to partial shade, making it an excellent choice for woodland gardens and shaded areas. It may fruit better with more sunlight.
Beautiful fragrant white/cream flowers that are brilliant as a cut flower.
