Description

Dessert apple. Pick in October, use til February. Developed around 1800 in Exeter, Devon, England. Medium-sized and structurally round to slightly conical. The skin matures from a base green into a beautiful, warm golden yellow. It is instantly recognizable by a heavy dusting of cinnamon-colored russet dots or flecks and occasionally features a very faint orange-pink blush where the sun hits it. The yellowish-white flesh is incredibly crisp, firm, and tender. It is celebrated among fruit enthusiasts for its remarkably unique, aromatic, distinctly pineapple-like flavor that packs a rich, sharp, and intense sweet-acid punch. Primarily classified as a premium dessert (eating) apple, but its intense flavor and exceptional juiciness make it highly prized for producing a uniquely tropical-noted regional apple juice. It can also be baked. Pollination Group 4 (or Group D). exceptional natural resistance to apple scab. Because Devon's climate is notoriously damp and rainy, its ability to repel scab makes it a standout choice for low-intervention, historic regional orchards
