Description
An evergreen large shrub to 5m high with dark silvery green leaves and red fruits (2 cm by 1 cm) ripening in April or May, which are richly flavoured when fully ripe. The seeds are also edible, though the seed case is chewy.
The shrub produces small, creamy-white flowers that are highly fragrant, often filling the air with a sweet scent during mild autumn days.
A very good hedging and windbreak plant that will grow almost anywhere - poorer sites seem to encourage more fruiting.
