Guava
Description
Guava is a subtropical perennial tree native to the American tropics. It is a small tree that reaches up to 2-6m. Flowers are white, big, 2.5 cm in diameter, fragrant, growing solitary or in small bunches.
Fruits are ~15cm with pink flesh and lots of small seeds. The skin is edible and the flesh could be white, yellow, green or pink. Guava has a high vitamin C content.
Can be eaten fresh, used in desserts, and for juices, preserves and sauces.
Frost tender, with ideal temperatures for growth and fruit production between 20-32° C. Mature trees tolerate brief dips to -2° C, but temperatures below 0° C can severely damage young plants. Best grown in a pot and relocated indoors during the winter.
