Walnut 'Fernette'

Recent French variety that produces large, good quality globular nuts similar to Fernor. Thin shelled for kernel extraction. A good pollinator for other varieties and it's late leafing avoiding spring frost damage. A precocious flowering and late ripening form. Best when eaten fresh when they're fully ripe but can be pickled if the fruits are picked early, during the summer when they're green. Fernette is a variety that's very suited to the UK climate but ripens slightly later in the Autumn to other varieties. It is self-fertile, but planting a pollinator like Fernor nearby improves crop yields.

We recommend planting several of these trees closer together and selecting your final tree once they've produced their first nuts (4-8 years) so that you can select the most productive trees with the highest-quality nuts.
