Description
A tough, low-growing, mat-forming evergreen perennial. It is highly prized as a dense, low-maintenance ground cover that suppresses weeds and easily brightens dark, shady spots under trees.
Thrives in almost any well-drained soil type, including heavy clay and chalk. It loves a moist, humus-rich soil but is remarkably drought-tolerant once its roots are fully established under a tree canopy.
Perfect for difficult banks, slopes, woodland borders, or as an underplanting layer beneath large shrubs where little else will grow. It is one of the rare plants that performs exceptionally well in tricky north-facing or east-facing borders.
