Description
Cootamundra Wattle, is a highly ornamental tree or large shrub from Australia with short, very attractive, blue-green leaves that are a purple when young. When mature it produces long racemes of yellow flowers that are delightful in a bouquet.
Not as hardy as Acacia dealbata or Acacia melanoxylon, Acacia baileyana needs a warm sheltered aspect, full sun and a deep mulch for winter.
Suitable in milder parts of the country or in an urban microclimate it can also be grown in a large container for the conservatory. During long periods of sub-zero temperatures it should be protected with several layers of fleece.
