Description
Rare small tree, bears large bunches of russet-red fruits, 12-15mm across which are edible when ripe or after a frost, with a medlar-like date flavour.
Devon Beauty is our selection, an especially heavy and early fruiter.
Historically, the edible fruit was sold at Devon markets as 'Otmast' or Sorb Apples, but today it is more a favourite of hungry birds. The fruits can be eaten straight from the tree or can be used to make jams, jellies and smoothies.
