Giant Furcraea

A rare yucca-like plant from Mexico with pale bluish-green upright sword-like leaves. White flower spikes are produced on mature plants in summer and can reach 10-12 feet in height.

Produces strong, durable natural leaf fibres that are historically used to make rope, twine, bags, and coarse textiles.

It can handle very brief winter dips down to -2°C to -5°C if it is completely dry. However, extended freezes or damp, wet winter mud will cause it to quickly rot and collapse. In the UK, it can only successfully grow outside year-round in exceptionally mild coastal microclimates like coastal Cornwall, Devon and Isles of Scilly.
