Green Cardamom

True green cardamom, is a spice that is well known around the world. This tropical plant makes a wonderful edible houseplant or greenhouse addition.

Smooth, lance-shaped aromatic dark green leaves. The young shoots can be eaten raw, steamed or roasted. The leaves are used to wrap other foods whilst cooking, to impart aromatic flavour. The aromatic fruit and seeds are much used as a spice in a range of dishes (although unlikely to set fruit in UK unless specifically cultivated in controlled conditions).

The plant enjoys a part shade position in fertile, well drained soil. It'll grow roughly 1.5m high by 1.5m wide.
