Description
A large, long-lived evergreen conifer known for its high stress tolerance, aromatic bark, and preference for dry, nutrient-poor, or rocky mountain sites.
It is famous for its bark fragrance, which is often described as smelling of vanilla, lemon, or butterscotch (a result of high n-heptane content), particularly noticeable on warm days.
The seeds are edible and quite large, 10-15mm long.
