Suhosine Mulberry 'Elite'
Description
The fruits have a mulberry-esque appearance, though much smaller and a vivid, almost glowing orange. Bite into one and you’ll find they are surprisingly fresh tasting, crunchy and with a juicy sweetness. Ripening in late Summer & Autumn, they stay fresh on the branches for months, meaning you can have a very long picking season.
Produces a high-quality bast fibre from its inner bark. This strong fibre is traditionally used to make durable fishing nets and ropes.
Plant is hardy to some frost (branches are frost hardy to zone 8, roots to zone 7 if mulched). Plant creates fruits even when it is small (about 30cm tall). It likes some shade and moist soil. Can be evergreen or (in cooler areas) deciduous.
