Ebbinge's Silverberry 'Limelight'

A form of Elaeagnus x ebbingei with silvery young leaves which become yellow and green. It fruits well when cross pollinated with the unvariegated species.

 Red fruits (2 cm by 1 cm) ripening in April or May, which are richly flavoured when fully ripe. The seeds are also edible, though the seed case is chewy.

Tiny, silvery-white, bell-shaped flowers open from October to January and release a strong, sweet fragrance into the air. Flowers can be used to flavour drinks.

Highly drought-tolerant once established. It thrives in dry, poor, or sandy soils and withstands harsh coastal winds and salt spray, making it an ideal low-maintenance hedge or screen.
